Product details

Growing Roma VF tomatoes: resistant and productive

The Roma VF tomato is a vigorous, productive mid-season variety, resistant to mildew thanks to its selection for resistance to Verticilium and Fusarium. Find out how to grow it successfully to enjoy delicious elongated tomatoes in your garden.

It produces a large number of medium-sized (60-70 g), elongated, light-green fruits mottled with gray. Ideal for making concentrates, coulis, soups, juices and other culinary preparations.

Sowing

Sowing period: Sow from February to April in warm soil (20°C) or in pots indoors or in a heated greenhouse. Seeds need a constant temperature of at least 20°C to germinate.

Sowing technique: Bury seeds 1 cm deep in fine sowing compost. Water gently to keep the soil moist, but avoid excessive watering to prevent seed rot.

Transplanting and cultivation

Transplanting: Transplant when frost is no longer a concern and the plants have reached 12-15 cm in height. Plant them in rich, loose, healthy soil, 70 cm apart between rows and 50 cm apart in rows, in a sunny spot.

Staking: Unlike other varieties, Roma VF tomatoes require neither pruning nor staking.

Gourmet management

Gourmand pruning: You can choose whether or not to prune the gourmands on your tomato plants. This operation is not compulsory, but can help to increase fruit size and earliness.

Harvest

Tomatoes can be harvested around 4 to 5 months after sowing, once they have reached maturity.

Disease treatment

The main diseases you may encounter are downy mildew and apical necrosis.
To avoid downy mildew, protect your plants from frequent rainfall and possibly use a Bordeaux mixture-based treatment.
Apical necrosis can be caused by calcium deficiency or irregular watering.
Make sure you water regularly and abundantly to avoid this problem.
