Growing the Green Milan or Black Beauty zucchini: a productive and delicious variety

Zucchini Verte de Milan, also known as Black Beauty, is a non-runny, early and highly productive variety. Find out how to grow it successfully to enjoy beautiful dark-green fruit in your garden.

This zucchini produces dark green fruits measuring around 18 to 20 cm in length. It's a variety renowned for its earliness, high productivity and fruit quality.

Sowing

Sowingperiod: Sow in April, in well-lit pots. Make sure the ambient temperature is at least 12°C, as the seeds need heat to germinate. Place the seeds on the edge of the bucket to prevent rotting in case of excess humidity.

Watering: Keep the potting soil moist with a sprayer, but take care not to exceed it to avoid rotting the seeds.

Cultivation

Transplanting: Transplant the plants into the ground from mid-May, in a sunny spot at a distance of around 1 m in all directions.

Care: Pinch stems to stimulate plant development. Hoe and weed regularly to eliminate weeds. Mulch the base to limit weed growth and conserve soil moisture.

Watering: Water at the base of the plant in summer, avoiding wetting the foliage.

Good combinations

Avoid potatoes: Avoid planting zucchini near potatoes.
Beans and cabbage: Zucchini appreciates the proximity of beans and cabbage.

Common problems

Lack of flowers or fruit: If your zucchini plant doesn't produce flowers or fruit, it may be due to high temperatures or a lack of pollination. Attract pollinators by sowing floral mixes nearby.

Harvest

Zucchini can be harvested around 2 months after sowing. Pick when young to avoid bitterness.
