Growing the Marconi Rosso bell pepper: a tasty Italian variety

The Marconi Rosso bell pepper is an Italian variety renowned for its earliness, hardiness and fruit quality. Find out how to grow it successfully to enjoy fleshy, sweet and deliciously tasty peppers in your garden.

Description

Marconi Rosso peppers produce elongated fruits measuring around 15 to 20 cm long, with 3 lobes that are not erect on the plant. Their flesh is fleshy, sweet and fresh, with no spiciness in the mouth. Plants reach around 60 cm in height, with green stems and purple nodes. Each plant can usually produce from 5 to 15 fruits.

Sowing

Sowing period: Sowing takes place in February or March in pots filled with fine sowing compost, to a depth of only 2 to 3 mm. They should be sown in a heated greenhouse, at a temperature of around 25°C.

Seedling care: Water the cups gently with a sprayer to keep the potting soil moist, but take care not to soak it. You can also sprinkle on a little crushed charcoal to prevent the development of fungi. Place the pots in full sunlight or under a horticultural lamp to prevent the seedlings from wilting.

Transplanting and cultivation

Transplanting: Once the seedlings have developed 2 to 4 true leaves, transplant them into larger pots.

Planting in the garden: Transplant the plants in the garden in May, when there is no risk of frost. Choose a warm, sunny spot, with about 50 cm between plants. Water regularly and mulch to keep the soil moist.

Careful with nitrogen: Avoid excess nitrogen, as this can lead to overgrowth of the foliage, to the detriment of the fruit.

Harvest

Marconi Rosso peppers are generally ready to harvest around 5-6 months after sowing. Pick them when they reach full maturity, half-ripe if green, or fully ripe if red.
