HOW TO MAKE COMPOST ?
First of all, we must understand what makes a good compost mixture, to do so three important bases:
Green material (source of nitrogen) :
Grass clippings and young grass
Uncooked fruit and vegetable peels
Coffee grounds and tea bags
Brown material (carbon source):
Fall leaves, hay, straw, shredded paper
Wood chips
Cardboard and plain paper (ideally shredded)
Other materials:
Wood ash, egg shells, natural wool or cotton fibers.
Now you can get started with the composition of your compost:
1 - Form layers of waste
First place a layer of brown material at the bottom of the composter, then a layer of green material and mix lightly.
If you can, also add micro-organisms to speed up the composting process.
2 - Water to provide moisture
Once the composter is full and different layers of material have been put in, water lightly to get some moisture content.
Too much water creates a soggy mix, and too much air dries out the materials.
3 - Mix to add air
Keep things moving, turning your compost to add air to the mix.
This will help speed up the decomposition process.
4 - Cover the composter and wait
Cover it with the lid if the composter has one and wait while the compost decomposes and forms.
Good compost is crumbly with a sweet soil smell.
Good compost improves soil structure and increases water retention.
